Note also that while Scrat carries an object and passes a nearby hidden goody, his portrait will NOT change to the smelling portrait, so you may want to check the area again after you've delivered the item he carries to make sure you didn't miss any hidden goodies. This usually means that the goodies are nearby but much higher-up than your current location, such as on top of a high rock, way above you. It is possible that Scrat smells something but no scent is shown when sniffing. When you notice this portrait, let Scrat sniff to locate the goodies, go to the source of the scent and sniff again to obtain the goodies. The only portrait to pay attention to is when Scrat smells something as it reveals a nearby goodie which you otherwise wouldn't be able to spot in most cases. When Scrat is digging, this portrait will be displayed. When Scrat uses a zip line, this portrait will be displayed. When Scrat carries an object, this portrait will be displayed. Scrat smells something nearby, either fruit or a nut hidden in a bush, or a nearby walnut or golden nut. Note that Scrat's portrait changes from time to time. Currently it is filled to its maximum of 5. The colored tiles around the portrait represent Scrat's Energy, which is the number of special attack moves he can execute. Sometimes petals are also hidden inside plants or even inside ice cubes and clam shells. In order to replenish health, attack yellow flowers so they release their petals, and pick up those petals - one petal is one health point. When health drops to zero, Scrat dies, and the game restores at the latest checkpoint. The number to the right of Scrat's portrait is your health. In the upper-left corner of the game screen you'll see Scrat's portrait.
